Stick to the Plan!

I hate wasting time, gas, money, basically anything. This is a trait I have inherited from my mother who studiously plans out her errand routes so that the amount of backtracking is as minimal as possible even if that means that some of the errands have to wait until the one day that she is heading to that section of town. However, yesterday I became my own worst enemy...Aaron and I had a lot to do yesterday. We had to go to the bank, drop off some presents to my brother-in-law's grandparents in Lindon, open a membership at Costco, go grocery shopping and we were given tickets to see the movie Avatar at 1pm. Oh, and I had work from 5pm - 10pm. It was the first day of break for Aaron where he actually didn't have to get up to go to class or study so we slept in until around 10am. As we were getting ready to leave I attempted to print off our tickets to the movie. However, the printer and I were not getting along well, so after a 30 minute fight Aaron rescued me and got the tickets printed out. I was also trying to plan our route to all the different places we needed to go and was doing so quite successfully on Google Maps. We were all ready to go (so we thought) and left the house at 11:15 which was a little later that we had hoped. Halfway to the bank we realized that the tickets to the movie were in the printer tray...at home. We turned around to pick up the tickets and head back to the bank now a lot later than we had hoped. After the bank we headed out to my brother-in-law's grandparents house in Lindon, just about 3/4 of the way there we realized that while we may be going to their house we most certainly did not have the presents with us that we were supposed to be giving them. Also we realized that if we turned around to go home not only would we be majorly backtracking but we would be late for our movie which has only been out since Friday. So we decided to just detour to the movie theater, however, upon arrival we figured that while we wanted to be there early to get a good seat we didn't want to be an hour and fifteen minutes early. So we decided to head to nearby Costco to at least open our membership, although we couldn't do the shopping there that we needed to because the refrigerated goods would go bad while we were in the movie. After successfully completing our mission at Costco we went back to the movie theater to relax and enjoy our movie. The movie got out at 4 and, as you remember, I had to be at work at 5 but we had to go home first so that I could change into my uniform and get something to eat. So my loving husband agreed to drop me off at work to go finish our errands which included going to drop off the presents, again, and go grocery shopping at Costco and then pick me up from work at 10pm. So by the end of the day we did get all of our errands accomplished but it was certainly not according to plan.

Battle of the Bands-ish

Yesterday Aaron and I were lucky enough to receive a set of 4 tickets to watch the taping of Music & the Spoken word from his grandmother. After the taping The Mormon Tabernacle Choir performed a mini-version of the Christmas concert they had performed earlier that weekend including guests Natalie Cole (Nat King Cole's daughter) and David McCullough. The performance was amazing and beautifully presented as has been my experience from any MoTab concert I have attended. After returning home from Salt Lake City we went to church where the agenda for Sacrament Meeting was, you guessed it, the Christmas program given by the choir. Our choir performed admirably with some lovely accompanying orchestral pieces. They succeeded in bringing the Spirit and reminding us of what Christmas is centered around. After church, dinner and a refreshing nap we were again off, this time to a concert given by Latter-day Sounds, a choir Taber is a part of. Again we were privileged to enjoy a fabulous concert which brought the Savior into the forefront of our minds. I'm not so sure about Aaron but for me this day felt like the beginning of the real holiday season. Even though I have been subjected to Christmas music at work since the beginning of October I have discovered that working in retail sucks the life out of your weekends and holidays and I am just now beginning to feel that it might be time for Christmas. So, finally, Merry Christmas!

Ebony and Ivory

This post is dedicated to my grandmother Alene Kofford. For as long as I have been alive and longer my grandmother has been a pianist extraordinaire. Some of my earliest memories of my grandmother are listening to her accompany the quartet to which my parents and grandfather belonged. In most of these memories I had snuck out of bed and down the hall to lay on the floor and listen to them practice only to wake up in my bed the next morning after being placed there by my loving parents. My grandmother's ability to play the piano so well has continued to play a major part in my perception of her to this day and I now feel that being around the piano together with my family and grandma are precious times. She is a role model to me of service and of sharing our talents.

The Beginning

Alright, I am starting this blog in hopes that I may keep in better contact with our family and also use it as a journal of sorts because at the moment my journal keeping is abysmal. Therefore since it is being used as a journal you, the reader, may find many unimportant entries with insignificant details but as this is an effort for posterity I don't really care if you think it's boring or not. So, happy reading or not.
